” Transcending the boundaries of a typical field trip, such as partnering History with Arts, this trip goes beyond the historical significance but also allows students to immerse themselves in the poems and thoughts to create art – weaving together the strands of History, Art, culture, and philosophy.

Confucius’s teachings, preserved within the temple’s hallowed walls, offer insights into the soul of the Chinese nation. Through this journey, we all have been transported into the heart of Chinese culture, emerging with a renewed sense of respect and admiration for its rich heritage.”

——Ana Carmo

“The study at Parkview Green Art Gallery had a profound impact on the 11th and 12th-grade IB students. Experiencing Salvador Dali’s artworks in person transcended traditional classroom learning, immersing students in the vibrant world of surrealism. Witnessing the intricate details and imaginative brilliance of Dali’s creations sparked intellectual curiosity and nurtured a profound appreciation for artistic expression (a key IB English B theme). Beyond academic benefits, the study fostered creativity, encouraging students to think outside conventional boundaries. This exposure to diverse perspectives and artistic styles not only enriched their cultural awareness but also cultivated a lifelong love for the arts (as their were other artistic masterpieces on display). Overall, the study at Parkview Green Art Gallery played a pivotal role in shaping the students’ holistic development, leaving an enduring impact on their intellectual and aesthetic sensibilities as well as aligning with the core IB principles.”

“As an 11th-grade IB student, the field trip to Parkview Green Gallery was a captivating journey into the world of Salvador Dali’s surrealism. Amidst the plethora of mesmerizing artworks, the statue “Madonna of Port Lligat,” crafted by Dali in 1974, left an indelible mark on my artistic sensibilities.

Dali’s meticulous craftsmanship conveyed a sense of divine mystery, blurring the lines between reality and imagination.

Dali’s exploration of the divine through surrealism challenged my preconceptions about religious art, prompting me to question and interpret the spiritual in a new light. This experience immersing me in the visceral impact of art on emotions and perceptions. The field trip to Parkview Green Gallery, fueled my passion for art, pushing me to explore the limitless realms of creativity and expression.”

Field Trip at CKWA ICP 丨The integration of nature and humanity, and the collision of history and modernity!

The early winter of Beijing is mysterious. There is a collision between history and modern culture, as well as a blend of nature and humanity. Almost all scholars from all walks of life learnt the essence of Chinese culture through their study trips, including the most well-known educator Confucius, the historian Sima QIAN, the geographer Daoyuan LI, the poet Bai LI to the scholar Yanwu GU from ancient China.

The CKWA ICP students from various grade groups went to different places in Beijing for field trip. Led by the teachers of the corresponding subject department, they connected the field trip with the subject knowledge learnt in the classroom and had a pleasant and meaningful learning experience.

Grade 6 · Beijing Meteorological Monitoring Center
Meteorological science popularization is an activity of learning meteorological knowledge through practical research, observation, and experimentation. This learning approach can provide a more vivid, interesting, and challenging learning experience, while also laying an important foundation for students’ scientific literacy, practical ability, and future career development.

Grade 7 · Confucius Temple and Imperial Academy Museum
To better help students understand the education mechanism of ancient China, Grade 7 students came to the Confucian Temple and the Imperial Academy Museum for study. This field trip not only provides students an opportunity to associate with their textbook knowledge, but also gives foreign teachers a further understanding of China’s long-standing culture.

Grade 8 · Prince Gong Mansion
Before the field trip, Grade 8 Chinese class happened to cover the unit of “Explanatory Writing and Travel Notes”. In the Chinese class, students learned about the methods of explanation, order of explanation, and techniques of describing scenery, which perfectly combined with this study. This allowed students to have a better understanding of Chinese culture, appreciate the beauty of ancient Chinese garden architecture, and apply the knowledge of explanatory writing while visiting Prince Gong Mansion.

Grade 9 · Beijing Museum of Ancient Architecture
Grade 9 students walked into the Beijing Ancient Architecture Museum of the Xiannong Temple. This field trip not only allowed them to appreciate the grandeur of ancient architecture, and to understand the historical and cultural traditions of the Ming and Qing dynasties when the royal family worshipped the gods of agriculture and cultivated crops in person, but also to explore the practical application of geometric knowledge.

Grade 10· Beijing Meteorological Monitoring Center
Grade 10 research team also came to the Meteorological Monitoring Center, where they deepened their understanding of extreme weather prevention and response to climate change and learned how to correctly avoid natural disasters in daily life. Meteorological knowledge is related to multiple disciplines, which stimulates interest in learning natural sciences and exploring science activities.

G11 and G12 · Parkview Green Art Gallery
The selection of Parkview Green Art Gallery for the study by 11th and 12th-grade IB students was driven by the desire to explore some of Salvador Dali’s unique and influential works (a mainstay of this gallery). The gallery’s collection provided an excellent opportunity for students to engage with Dali’s surrealist masterpieces, offering a firsthand encounter with his artistic genius. The purpose of the visit was to enhance students’ understanding of art history and the significance of Dali’s contributions to the surrealist movement. The gallery served as a rich resource for students to analyze Dali’s techniques, symbolism, and thematic elements. The visit aimed to stimulate critical thinking and foster a deeper appreciation for art, aligning with the educational objectives of the IB program and one of our key topics for IB English B.

At this point, the series report of Chaoyang Kaiwen Academy this year has come to an end. Only through on-site exploration, physical objects, and real-life experiences can knowledge be learned and applied, triggering students’ desire and interest in learning. Let’s look forward to embarking on the trips again next year and discovering the beauty around us !
