Since winning third place when they debuted at the Beijing International School Fencing Tournament, Kaiwen Academy (KWA)’s young fencers have been preparing for and looking forward to another opportunity to display their skills. On June 10, 2018, they won runner-up at the 7th Beijing International School Fencing Tournament after crossing swords with nearly 240 teenage fencers.

As more and more students choose to learn fencing, the KWA Fencing Team has been growing. The young fencers did not get cold feet facing a competition of this scale. Before the competition, all of them could hardly sit still and itched to have a go.

When two encounter on a narrow path, the brave one always wins! Competing for the championship once again, Zhang Zhiye did not give his old opponent a chance to breathe this time. He avenged his defeat the last time they met by achieving a landslide win with a five-point lead.

The coaches are coaching the players at the tournament.

Su Yufan from the U8 Women’s Epee Team won a place in the top 8 at the last tournament.

After that, she trained hard and won first place this time.

Xu Wenxin, practicing with a down-to-earth attitude and fighting calmly during the competition, successfully defended her U8 Women’s Foil Championship with confidence and superb skills.

The KWA Fencing Team won a silver medal at the 7th Beijing International School Fencing Tournament (ranking second in group points). We must thank the fencers for their courageous fighting and the coaches for their hard work.

A fencing competition, in which a fencer may seem to move like lightning, is in fact a game of the art of war, where a good psychological quality is particularly important. The KWA Fencing Team, while paying attention to training fencers’ basic skills, has focused more on conveying the right concepts and shaping the fencers’ character, including team spirit, perseverance, self-control, and self-confidence.
