Pi Day
International Mathematics Day | Celebrating π’s Birthday Together at CKWA!
March 14th is International Pi Day, a day celebrated by math enthusiasts worldwide in various ways to honor the mathematical constant π. Pi Day not only serves as a celebration of mathematics but also aims to increase public interest in math and science. For math teachers, Pi Day holds special significance as π represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter and is considered one of the most magical constants in mathematics, given its infinite and non-repeating decimal.
At CKWA, we host a series of campus Pi Day activities annually. On this mathematically charming day, students delve deeper into understanding pi, recognizing the importance of math in everyday life, and are encouraged to explore further into mathematics and science, experiencing the magical charm and joy that mathematics offers.
Primary Math Carnival
CKWA organized a unique “Search for Pi” activity. Equipped with passports, enthusiastic students transformed into young mathematicians, exploring the infinite mysteries of math through various games and competitions. The event was filled with joy and vitality, as students not only deepened their understanding of mathematics but also fostered teamwork and creativity.
Under the guidance of teachers, students engaged in various fun math games and challenges, such as Geometry Master, Math Board Games, Strategic Positions and Klotski. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and applause as children actively participated, learned from each other, and showcased their mathematical talents and teamwork spirit.
For elementary students, math is not just a subject but also a way of thinking and a life attitude. In the mathematics classrooms at CKWA Primary School, students not only learn how to solve problems but also cultivate observation, analysis, and critical thinking skills. Through a variety of teaching activities and math competitions, they not only acquire mathematical knowledge but also develop a love for math and a spirit of exploration. May this love for mathematics continue to burn brightly, guiding them towards a brighter future!
Secondary Pi Day
The Mathematics Department of the International Curriculum Program (ICP) at Chaoyang Kaiwen secondary school meticulously planned an annual Pi Day event, attracting enthusiastic participation from students in grades six through eleven. Students enjoyed the challenge of solving math puzzles and exploring math problems, not only experiencing the joy of mathematical thinking but also honing their logical reasoning skills. They also appreciated the beauty of symmetry in mandala painting and the artistic charm of mathematics. Math 24 tested students’ rapid response and calculation abilities, allowing them to experience the fun and cleverness of mathematics in games.
It is worth mentioning that this event specifically invited fifth-grade students from Primary to participate, allowing them to experience the learning environment and atmosphere of the Secondary School. This interdisciplinary communication and interaction not only promote friendships among students but also lay a solid foundation for their future learning careers.
In this year’s Pi Day event, a total of 15 students from three grades applied to become volunteers and actively participated in and served the event. Their enthusiasm, patience, and meticulous work ensured the smooth progress of the activities. We commend and thank these volunteer students for their dedication.
Love math, learn math, use math, experience math culture, and discover the beauty of mathematics. Under the guidance of teachers, students at Chaoyang Kaiwen Academy infuse the rational thinking and endless exploration spirit of mathematics into their daily lives and studies. These fun activities not only stimulate students’ intrinsic motivation for learning but also enable them to understand and express themselves. Furthermore, they integrate ordinary mathematical elements into life, inspiring innovation and critical thinking while experiencing the beauty of mathematics. We hope that students’ futures, like π, are filled with infinite possibilities and boundless happiness!
